It all began on a Tuesday in late April 2025, when I started as a software developer at punkt.de. On my first day of work, I arrived at the office in the morning, where my team and all the necessary equipment—such as a laptop and other work tools—were already waiting for me. During the first two days, I was able to familiarize myself with all the relevant processes and tools and work my way through the well-documented onboarding procedures step by step, so that by the end of those two days, I was all set and ready to get started.
The timing was perfect, because the very next day I headed off with my entire team to the team retreat in Bad Dürkheim. The team retreat takes place every year and serves as a sort of kickoff or team-building event. The timing was absolutely perfect for my first day on the job—I can’t imagine a better way to start than getting to know my team over several days through many interesting workshops and, of course, plenty of free time together.
Arrive and be right in the thick of it
During my first “real” work week after onboarding and the team-building days, I spent the first few days learning and getting up to speed on the current projects. In addition to my “learning ticket,” however, I also received my first “real” ticket that same week, which allowed me to contribute to actual projects right from the start. In addition to my primary focus on front-end development, I also had the opportunity to explore other areas, such as the Sylius web store and TYPO3.
Speaking of TYPO3, the TYPO3 Developer Days were a special experience. Since punkt.de sponsors the event every year and also helps with the organization, a large number of our employees attended the conference. In addition to several exciting presentations by my colleagues, most of us pitched in as “Helping Hands.” It was fascinating to see the level of dedication the community put into organizing this event together.
The day before the Developer Days was “Just Do It Day.” On this day, which is held twice a year, the entire company gathers at the Karlsruhe office to tackle various topics and projects proposed by the employees themselves. Everyone can participate in whatever they’d like. At lunchtime, we ordered pizza together, and at the end of the day, everyone presented their projects and results. It was definitely a very exciting day.
A Diverse Start: Work, a Conference, and JustDoIt Day
Overall, working at punkt.de is an ideal mix of interesting, varied, and challenging work, characterized by a great team spirit. You interact a lot with your colleagues, the atmosphere within the team is excellent, and if you have any questions, there’s always someone available to help you right away. During the first six months, you also have monthly meetings with your mentor, which provide an opportunity for feedback and personal questions in a confidential setting. Hybrid work allows you to focus on your tasks from home while still seeing your team in person on a regular basis.
Conclusion: Diversity, atmosphere, and a successful start
Here’s my impression after my first few months at punkt.de: The work is varied and the atmosphere is great, which definitely made it easier for me to settle in. I’m glad to have ended up here, I’m looking forward to the coming months, and I’m excited to see what new challenges await me.
