What Are the Benefits of TYPO3 Agency Meetup Days?

This year, I’m covering the TYPO3 Agency Meetup Days for punkt.de —and I’ve just returned from a fantastic event in Utrecht. A total of 11 such Meetup Days will take place in 2015, in 11 different cities across Europe. It’s quite an undertaking—not only for those of us who, like me, attend the events as official representatives of our companies, but also for the companies themselves, which have to do without their employees’ labor for a few days. That’s why I’d like to highlight in this post what these AMDs actually offer. For TYPO3, for us as a company, and also for me personally.

AMD for TYPO3

In addition to the AMD in Utrecht, I also attended two meetings in Copenhagen and Frankfurt—and everywhere I went, I got the sense that company representatives welcomed this opportunity to network and exchange ideas with like-minded professionals. Just like the TYPO3 Association itself. After all, all agencies want to advance TYPO3 and can support the development process in a wide variety of ways through their expertise and experience working directly with clients.

TYPO3 AMD for the company

punkt.de invests heavily in the AMD: My colleague Bianca Niestroj and I each attend four of the Meetup Days and are therefore out of the office for several days. Nevertheless, I believe this investment pays off for the company: First, because we get to know other agencies, some of which face the same challenges as we do. I find it extremely helpful to exchange ideas with these agencies and tackle problems together. Second, because we’re establishing a presence in the TYPO3 community. We discuss how the TYPO3 market will develop and work with other companies to advance TYPO3. Putting aside the obvious rivalry and competition and focusing on this one goal that unites us all—that’s the spirit of AMD.

TYPO3 AMD for Me

When I agreed to join the AMD this year, I have to admit that what I was most looking forward to was traveling through Europe and visiting many different cities. And being able to say goodbye to a colleague in Utrecht with the words “See you soon in Milan” certainly sounds like the life of a jet-setter at first. Unfortunately, the reality is a bit different. Of the cities I was able to visit as part of the AMD, I didn’t see much—but I did see plenty of hotel rooms, meeting rooms, and airport terminals... Still, I don’t regret my decision. Because I take away so much from these meetings for my work: Not just concrete offers like the one from Soeren Malling, who agreed to build a website for us, but also the knowledge of how to explain to our clients—during sales processes and competitive presentations—why TYPO3 is the right system for them.

TYPO3 AMD for Everyone

Whether it’s for me, for punkt.de or for TYPO3: The AMDs are definitely worth it. It’s not just my opinion—many of the numerous participants feel the same way. That’s why Meetup Days will continue in the coming years—and I can recommend to everyone that they attend a #T3AMD at least once a year.
