Neos without TYPO3 - a picture of the mood

It's been almost four months since Neos and TYPO3 decided to go their separate ways. I want to summarize what the split means for the work at punkt.de and how we assess the consequences of the split for the respective systems.

The initial situation

I can partly sympathize with the fact that this split has been announced for some time and some have even written that it happened long before the announcement. As co-leader of the TYPO3 Marketing Team and leader of the TYPO3 Design Team, I had very mixed feelings about this split. On the one hand, of course, because we had just spent six months working intensively in our teams to better align the brands with each other and to renew the communication concept around the so-called "umbrella" brand strategy. On the other hand, I was also of the opinion that the effort required to keep the two systems together was so great that it was hardly worth it.

But what does that mean for us in the company? Thankfully, it has always been punkt.de always been very important to us to understand and support the systems we use in the company. For this reason, at the time of the split, Bianca Niestroj and I already had people who were more involved in the TYPO3 environment, as well as colleagues who were very active in the Neos community, such as Sebastian Helzle and Daniel Lienert.

Even on a small scale, we saw what happened on a larger scale: all fears of insults and unpleasant scenes at the parting were largely unfounded. The general mood was more: "Thank you for the time and all the best for the future". This was also evident in our company. There were no arguments between the systems. There was more of an interest in supporting the systems where we could help best and, of course, the desire to be able to support both systems well and comprehensively. The reason for this is simple: we always want to offer our customers the best possible solution with the system that suits them best.

How we will continue with TYPO3 and Neos in the future

We as punkt.de have also talked intensively about the advantages and disadvantages of the systems and are of the opinion that both systems have a great future ahead of them. According to the requirements that we have to deal with in the future, we are still convinced that we can handle a large part of the requirements with TYPO3, Neos and Flow.

In order to stay close to the technical side of TYPO3, Alexander Krist attended a TYPO3 Coresprint for the first time this year and will continue to represent the punkt.de in the future in order to bring the problems and wishes of our projects into the system and thus bring it further forward.

We are also staying on the ball with Neos. We want to continue to be involved both in the area of development and in other support for the Neos team and the further development of the project.

In conclusion, despite many intensive discussions and differing opinions, we look back very gratefully on the last few years in the community, in which we have all learned a lot from each other and close bonds have been formed between the systems and companies. We hope to stay in contact with everyone and continue to shape the web world in Germany together. We look forward to many more events, where perhaps both systems will have a place again.
