Once again, the year is slowly drawing to a close. It’s been quite an eventful year. Here’s a summary of the highlights:
New Location
One of the biggest changes this year is our new office in Frankfurt am Main. This ensures that we’ll continue to be able to successfully carry out large projects for our clients in the future. Another reason for the Frankfurt office is our existing partnership with the design firm made in, which we want to further deepen and strengthen. And now that we’ve been sharing the same office since October, we can communicate with each other more quickly and efficiently on joint projects.
But the team in Frankfurt is still being built up, so you too can become a part of it—we look forward to receiving your application.![]()
In addition, together with made in, we’re now hosting a “Digital Meetup” in Frankfurt focused on topics from our digital field. You can register here:

New clients, and those who have trusted us for a long time
Anyone who knows us knows that we’re not the kind of agency that just “churns out” one project after another, but rather one that builds long-term partnerships. So, of course, we’ve built many new features for our existing clients and improved or expanded their existing websites, portals, digital applications, and more. For nph deutschland e.V., for example, we’ve now programmed the website in addition to the online store. We’ve also gained several new clients. Among other projects, we’ve implemented a modern website using Neos CMS for Volume Graphics in Heidelberg, and the TYPO3 website for BMG Labtech in Ortenberg has been given a fresh new look.
Case Studies
New Employees and Long-Time Punktler Staff
As in other companies, we’ve also seen some personnel changes. In addition to new employees (full-time staff and working students) joining our existing development teams, a new development team was formed at our new location. The guys from Frankfurt spent some time in Karlsruhe initially to learn the company’s processes and support our colleagues. They’ve since taken on their own client projects.
But there’s also news to share from the colleagues who’ve been on board a bit longer. For example, we’re constantly keeping up to date on web technologies and trends. New ideas can be tested during internal Slack sessions or at our company-wide “Just-Do-It Day.” The most recent one took place just at the beginning of December. During that event, for example, we programmed an Apple TV app and tested proServer in the cloud.
In addition, some of the newly acquired knowledge was certified. For example, three of our employees now hold the latest TYPO3 certification. And, of course, we share our knowledge. In the infographic above, you’ve already seen where we’ve given presentations. And the first two events for the coming year have already been confirmed: At hallo.digital, Fabian Stein will discuss whether websites are facing extinction. And at the Digital FUTUREcongress, he’ll provide insights into the benefits of a continuous relaunch process.
punkt.de -Hosting Updates
Following the launch of our proServer last year, we’ve added Nextcloud hosting to our lineup this year and improved and expanded our existing product. We’ve also added dedicated proServers to our lineup. The optimizations to the proServer include the following:
- We can now offer the complete ELK stack.
- The proServers now offer Neos and TYPO3 “out-of-the-box” solutions with the latest versions.
- The proServer can be used in popular cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Services, and DigitalOcean). Others available upon request.

In the new year, we plan to further expand our hosting services and will place a strong emphasis on consulting and the operation of complex web infrastructures. Stay tuned. You’ll get a first preview of our new projects at the TYPO3 Camp Mitteldeutschland.
News from Neos and TYPO3
We have supported open-source products that we use in our daily work in the past—for example, through our employees’ participation in code sprints, as core developers for Neos, or as TYPO3 marketing leaders.
Since the beginning of this year, we have also decided to become a Platinum Member of the TYPO3 Association. This ensures that the development of the Enterprise CMS continues to move forward. As for TYPO3 itself, we can report that the LTS version of TYPO3 8, as well as the first release of TYPO3 9, were released this year. You can download the new versions on the right.
There’s just as much going on in the Neos community. In addition to the third version, which was released at the beginning of the year and is constantly being improved, a major transformation is currently underway. With the newly developed React UI, the user interface has been optimized to meet the diverse needs of customers, made more update-friendly, and even more extensible, so that both editors and integrators can do their jobs even more easily with Neos CMS. We helped support this overhaul. And on top of that, the LTS version of Neos was released just on December 20, 2017, bringing several new features and improvements for editors, integrators, and developers.
punkt.de Academy
We’re excited to announce that we now offer training courses on various topics such as TYPO3, Neos, Scrum, and more. We’ve set up an “Academy” section on our website for this purpose. We’ll be expanding our offerings gradually but steadily. You can find more information here:
Haven't found the right workshop yet? Don't hesitate to ask if we can offer one that's just right for you.
What Else Has Been Happening
We’d like to let you know that we get involved in social causes from time to time. In addition to donating backpacks to effeff-ettlingen, we supported TG Neureut with a DKMS fundraising campaign.
We also have two new social media accounts you can check out. Onour SlideShare account, you’ll find slides from our presentations, and feel free to follow ourhosting account on Twitterif you’re interested in hosting. We’re wowing potential customers at conferences and trade shows with our new giveaways.
This year’s company events included not only the Christmas party, a trip to the Karlsruhe Duck Race, and a group visit to the Christmas market, but also visits to camps and conferences. In addition, we attended numerous trade shows, sometimes even as exhibitors. And of course, we shouldn’t forget the internal team events that each team organizes once a year.
So, that wraps up my year in review. I wish you all a peaceful holiday season, a wonderful celebration, and a fantastic start to the new year 2018!
