Every year, the Neos scene comes together for NeosCon. At punkt.de, many people are actively involved in developing Neos - including Maya Bornschein, who won the Best Speech Award this year. We spoke to her about her experience at the conference.
Ich liebe es wenn ein Plan funktioniert!

Neos Conference, that means meetingpunkt der scene, lectures and a joint development sprint. Of course, we were there again this year - also as a Gold Sponsor.
After the conference took place in Hamburg last year, this time we met in Dresden with host Sandstorm. For a bit more continuity, Sandstorm will be hosting NeosCon again next year. Why always reinvent everything when the location and experience are already there? Especially as the Alte Schlachthof really offered a nice setting.
Super Nintendo and Sprint
At the punkt-de stand this year, there were retro consoles (Super Nintendo and an old GameCube) to encourage a cozy get-together. Here are a few impressions:
The traditional development sprint took place after the conference for the first time. This makes sense, because otherwise it often happens that the organizers have to sort out a lot of things during the sprint instead of concentrating on development.
Around 20 developers took part in this year's sprint at Sandstorm's premises, including some who are not part of the Neos core team - also from punkt.de.
Presentations: Major projects and best practices
Two punkt.de team members gave presentations this year. Daniel Lienert spoke about large Neos projects. In his opinion, Neos is now very well suited for projects with large amounts of data and/or high traffic. He speaks from experience: the VVW project that punkt.de has realized uses over 500,000 nodes!
However, anyone handling such data volumes in Neos should bear a few things in mind with regard to development (code), data handling and traffic handling. In his talk, Daniel gives tips on this for everyone involved, such as programmers, integrators and DevOps:
Maya Bornschein gave a presentation on Best Practices: File conventions, folder structures... What sounds dry is often crucial in practice for the future viability of code, especially when it comes to updates. The tips and advice she gave can be heard in her presentation:
We are particularly pleased that Maya won the Best Talk Award for her presentation - in the form of a golden glitter microphone! Congratulations again! We spoke to her about her experiences.

4 questions for Mirjam "Maya" Bornschein
Did you expect to receive the Best Talk Award for your presentation?
Maya: Not at all, especially as my topic was very dry. File conventions and folder structures don't necessarily knock your socks off. But it is an important topic to ensure that working with Neos runs smoothly and, above all, that updates can be carried out without any problems. If everyone sticks to the conventions, life will be much easier for the developers!
How did you manage to convince the audience?
Maya: When I was preparing for the presentation, a friend said: "You have to bring personality to this dry topic! So I tried to do that. I wanted to present the topic in a more relaxed way.
How does it feel to win the Golden Speech Award?
Maya: To be honest: wonderful! But I also have to say that many other speeches deserved the award, perhaps even more than I did. After all, I didn't take Neos any further, I didn't develop any great new functions or anything like that. I would definitely have given it to others.
What are your general impressions of this year's NeosCon 2019?
The atmosphere was really great. I have to say, the Neos community is great and I felt very welcome. As a woman in the scene, that's not always a given. And so I was also quite excited before my presentation, but I hope to inspire other women to dare to do something, just as I was inspired by other women who dared to take the stage.
Thank you!

Working at punkt.de - getting started and the first few months
I've been at punkt.de for four months now and in that time I've already taken part in the team days, the Just Do It Day, as a helping hand at a conference and experienced a project going live.
