Tracking without cookies
Is it possible to track websites without using cookies? Yes, it is possible with Matomo. This option is particularly suitable if you as a company, authority or organization want to be very "data-efficient" - in other words, if you want to set a good example.
When tracking without cookies, Matomo generates a so-called "fingerprint", which the software creates from the properties of the browser and the device, for example. This allows visitors to be identified even without cookies. Matomo regularly changes this fingerprint to further prevent data misuse. This maintains extensive analysis options without the need to set cookies.
Another, even more data protection-friendly alternative is tracking by means of server logs. Matomo is also capable of this, although some analysis options are lost here. With Matomo, you therefore have the choice between different variants. In addition to not processing the data for other purposes, as is the case with Google Analytics, tracking without cookies can ensure even more trust.
