Since 1999, the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) has organized the Chaos Communication Camp (CCCamp) every four years in August. In addition to internet, electricity and catering, the camp offers various events on technical, social and political topics. "Bring your tent and participate!"
Just like four years ago, I didn't want to miss out on this year's spectacle.
- "Watch out, data breaches!" is defined as "a mixture of a lecture and a game and learning show about the General Data Protection Regulation."
- The"card10" ("cardio") presentation serves as an introduction to the capabilities of the card10 badge, which was issued at the camp. The badge has the shape of a smartwatch, various biosensors, Bluetooth LE, Linux as operating system and can run Python programs.
If you are not attending a lecture, workshop or other event, kriegt in a hack center with electricity and Internet. 1 gigabit symmetrical, of course - or more. If you have the right length of power and LAN cable with you, you can of course also enjoy these amenities directly in your own tent. You can plug yourself in (or have yourself plugged in) at the so-called Datenklos. With the interactive map as a web app, you can quickly find what you are looking for.
As the system does not natively have the necessary resources, everything has to be retrofitted: 2.5 km of fiber optics were laid for the Internet. In addition, a 10 gigabit radio link was laid as a backup. In the Deutsche Telekom network, it was also possible to access the mobile base station that was set up on the site during the camp. Vodafone and Telefonica also work, but less well. Electricity is generated directly on site using diesel generators. Water comes from large tanks.
While the Chaos Communication Congress, which takes place every year at the end of December, focuses on the presentations, the camp focuses on the social aspect. Many people also bring their families and children, who are looked after in the Kids Space during the day. There is, for example, a playground and a lake for swimming: a popular activity at temperatures of up to 32 °C.
