Neos Sprint November 2021

To continuously develop Neos as a CMS and coordinate marketing efforts for the project, regular sprints are held so that working groups and developers can exchange ideas.

This September, the Neos Sprint took place in Dresden.
In this post, you’ll learn why punkt.de considers it important to participate in these sprints and what happens during them.

The Sprint in Dresden

The Neos Sprint took place in Dresden during the week of November 8–12, 2021. At these regular sprints, developers and other interested parties can contribute to the Neos project (CMS), and of course, punkt.de was there again!

At the sprint, participants discuss the further development of Neos and coordinate community and marketing activities. In addition to the development work at the sprint, planning for the “Neos Conference 2022” was also on the agenda for the marketing team.

Why is it important for punkt.de to participate in the sprints?

As an agency that uses Neos on many projects, it’s important t punkt.de to actively participate in this project and to incorporate our experiences from client projects into the further development of Neos.

New features are discussed at the sprint just as much as bugs and errors; this is where the core team comes together to further develop Neos. They work together on solutions, and this is precisely where the exchange with other developers at the sprint is crucial. Requirements are formulated and discussed, prioritized, and addressed together in the form of tickets.

In this photo, you can see some of the developers at work during the sprint.

The "Neos Conference 2022"

While two of my colleagues were immersed in the further development of Neos during the sprint, I had my first meeting with the marketing team to begin planning the “Neos Conference 2022.” In addition to Neos development, we at punkt.de also want to support community engagement and marketing for Neos, and the “Neos Conference” is a key part of that.

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 event had to take place online, which worked very well but, of course, cannot replace an in-person event. For 2022, we’re planning an in-person event within a safe framework, provided, of course, that regulations allow it. Planning is already in full swing, even though it’s a challenge to plan for April 2022 at this early stage given the current situation.

You can find details about the conference here: https://www.neoscon.io/de

How does punkt.de support the Neos project?

During the sprints, punkt.de assigns some of its employees from the consulting and development teams to participate in the sprints and, in addition to direct financial support—such as providing refreshments for sprint participants or making donations—also supports the Neos project indirectly.

The Pandemic and the Sprint

Due to the current COVID-19 situation with high infection rates, the number of on-site participants was reduced. However, thanks to the 2G+ rule, it was still possible to work effectively, and many participants who couldn’t be there in person joined the working groups via video chat to take part in the sprint. We’d also like to thank our hosts at Sandstorm in Dresden once again!

Despite the challenging circumstances, we were able to take the Neos project another step forward during this sprint and spend a very enjoyable and productive time with our partner agencies.

You’ll see the results in one release or another, and the “Neos Conference 2022” is also taking shape.

We’re looking forward to the next sprint, and maybe we’ll see you at the “Neos Conference 2022” in Dresden!
