As an IT company, we at punkt.de have made it our mission to promote women in IT.

We want to employ women in all areas of the company. This is because we believe that a balanced gender ratio improves cooperation in the teams, leads to a broader view and ultimately also increases the efficiency of the teams. This is another reason why Girls' Day is so important to us. It's the perfect opportunity for young girls to get a taste of the IT world and get excited about the diversity in IT.

This year, our Girls' Day offer was aimed at girls between the ages of 12 and 15. Using the example of a small computer, the Microbit, we were able to show the 8 participants what is actually possible with computers.

Girls'Day on 03.04.2025

We welcomed 4 participants each at our two locations in Karlsruhe and Frankfurt am Main. This year in particular, there was a huge rush for the free places. Nevertheless, it was well received that we kept the groups small.

At the beginning of the day, everyone got to know each other and the basics of microbit were explained. Building blocks such as loop constructs and branches were already used here to enable simple games and initial message exchange between the devices.

After lunch, the participants were able to really get to grips with the material and tackle more complex tasks.

I thought it was cool that we were given an overview first and were then allowed to try things out for ourselves.

Cooperative game

A group of girls are sitting together in a meeting room. They each have a notebook in front of them, which they use to operate the microcontrollers.

As an example, a cooperative game based on the well-known "Heads Guess" was programmed together:

One player was chosen an animal by her microbit without revealing it. The other players were sent the chosen animal as a text message on their own controllers.

The player's task was to guess this animal by asking all the others yes/no questions.

This simple game involves a lot of programming tricks, all of which could be mastered.

Conclusion

First of all, we would like to thank all the girls. The day was a lot of fun for us too and we are very happy with the action day. Also a big thank you to the parents, who were all very friendly and open with us.

The feedback from our participants was overwhelmingly positive, so we are already looking forward to Girls'Day 2026.

I thought it was great because everything was well explained, I learned a lot and the atmosphere was good.
