Over the years that we have been working on projects involving open-source CMS platforms such as TYPO3 and Neos, the demand for interfaces to third-party systems has steadily increased. The corporate website is no longer just an isolated, standalone communication solution; rather, it only realizes its full potential through interaction with other systems and data sources—whether that’s a Product Information Management System (PIM), Enterprise Resource Planning software (ERP), a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, or specialized applications for HR processes.
Open-source CMS platforms are ideally suited for such tasks thanks to their open interfaces and high degree of customization. We can confirm this with confidence, as we have proven it time and again through a multitude of successfully implemented projects.
Interfaces also play a central role in one of our current projects. For our client, we have implemented an integration between a marketing website and the SAP Customer Data Cloud (SAP CDC) —with direct connections to both the SAP Marketing Cloud and the SAP Sales Cloud.
A company’s website is a key touchpoint for customer interactions—and thus a valuable lead generator. Without a direct connection to the SAP cloud solutions, however, leads would have to be transferred manually. That would not only be time-consuming but also prone to errors. Integration with the SAP Customer Data Cloud —which connects to both the SAP Marketing Cloud and the SAP Sales Cloud —creates a seamless, automated process.
Integration offers several advantages:
This transforms the website into a powerful hub that automatically captures leads and intelligently processes them—from the initial contact all the way to a sales opportunity.
For our project, it wasn’t enough to use the CMS’s standard features. While the CMS generally allows for processing form data from users, our client’s requirements went beyond the existing capabilities.
That’s why we customized the existing form builder. So-called SAP forms can now be integrated directly into the website. They ensure that leads are transmitted to marketing and sales securely, in a standardized manner, and without any manual intermediate steps. Editors can place the forms flexibly, while our implementation eliminates errors caused by manual data entry.
A key feature is asynchronous data transfer via a queue. This ensures optimized performance, as users do not have to wait for feedback. At the same time, the company retains control at all times through traceable entries, and even in the event of an error, a lead remains stored and can be resubmitted later.
In addition, we have developed our own modules to optimally process and manage data from the SAP systems. This has resulted in a customized solution that integrates seamlessly into the existing IT landscape and supports the customer’s individual processes.
Linking the website to SAP Marketing Cloud and SAP Sales Cloud—consolidated in the SAP Customer Data Cloud—makes lead management more efficient, reliable, and data-driven. Leads are captured automatically and processed without manual intervention; marketing and sales data is always up to date; and campaigns and sales initiatives can be targeted even more precisely using Customer Interests and SAP Products.
The result: Every lead captured on the website is automatically transferred to the appropriate SAP systems—error-free, efficiently, and seamlessly integrated into marketing and sales processes. This ensures that leads are not only efficiently captured and processed but also tracked throughout the entire customer journey: from the first touchpoint all the way to the sales opportunity.
