BoGy & Girls Day - Why the early promotion of talent is important to us!

It's no secret that it has become difficult to find and retain good developers. In this respect, we feel the same way as many other companies - it has become all the more important to pick up and promote young talent at an early stage.

In addition to the targeted promotion of women in IT , it is generally important to us as punkt.de to promote talent at a very early stage. for this reason, in addition to training and dual studies, we also offer student and school internships and are happy to invest the time of our experienced developers in mentoring the next generation of developers.

As part of the BoGy, we would like to offer students an orientation. For many, it is their first contact with the world of work and we try to give our student interns the best possible start and integrate them into our processes from the very beginning.

Girls' Day 2022 Arbeiten

Some of our developers found their way to us through internships, e.g. during their training or studies, and simply stayed. Perhaps you are currently looking for an internship or a job as a working student or know someone who would be interested?

Then let our student intern Jannik Oeschger tell you how he experienced punkt.de and why he continues to work for us during his vacation.

Field report: Jannik Oeschger (16) - From school intern to vacation job!

Who is Jannik Oeschger?

Jannik completed his student internship with us in October 2021 as part of the BoGy in the 9th grade and has remained with us to this day and works with us during his vacations.

Jannik already had previous knowledge of Java and HTML/CSS and was able to join one of our TYPO3 teams in Karlsruhe straight away. He was supervised by our experienced developers Christian Keuerleber and Ursula Klinger.

What did you do with us, Jannik?

After a short introduction, I was allowed to work on tasks in React on the very first day, in close coordination with Christian. From the second day onwards, my personal React project was added. The entire process of a new project was run through here, from the structure to the planning and sketches until it finally came to programming.

On the last day, I spoke to one of the managing directors of punkt.de about the week and my future plans, and ended up with a vacation job at punkt.de. Since then, I have regularly helped out at punkt.de during my vacations.

In my first vacation block in March/April 2022, I worked with TYPO3 and an extension for one of our products, the "TinyPilot". Here, data from an order was to be transferred and converted into a parcel and customs document using a DHL API.

During the second block in August 2022, I then extended this extension so that it automatically queries the status of the parcels several times a day. Emails are automatically sent to customers in the event of critical changes.

This allowed me to work on specific projects at punkt.de that generate real added value and facilitate the processing of "TinyPilots". I really enjoyed it and learned a lot .

What experiences have you had with us?

I learned a lot about the working world and the processes of an agency and how important it is to work together as a team. It was also exciting to see how new projects are coordinated within the team and how the fine-tuning between team members works.

In August 2022, I was also able to attend the TYPO3 Developer Days in Karlsruhe (T3DD). The punkt.de was involved in the organization of the conference and I was allowed to participate as a "helping hand" at the conference and got an insight behind the scenes.

How did you like it?

I particularly liked the relaxed atmosphere in the office and the friendly atmosphere. I felt immediately welcomed and was able to gain practical experience straight away. Other interns around me had a much worse time, they were only allowed to observe.

I hardly noticed any difference between the intern and the staff when it came to treatment either. In my first vacation block after my internship, I was also taken into the new office at punkt.de and shown everything. If I had any questions, I was always able to quickly find someone who could help me.

Getting in touch with the other teams at T3DD, e.g. from Frankfurt, was also very exciting.

Will you still be with us?

Yes, as long as it works out during the vacations!

Curious? Then send us your application!
